How does voice capture work?
How it works
Voice capture is optional. Press and hold to speak, then release. Your phone's built-in speech recognition turns your words into text, and you review it before saving. You can always type instead.
DreamGate keeps no audio recording. Only the text you choose to save is stored, in your journal.
On your phone only
The app always asks for on-device recognition, where your phone does the work itself. It never falls back to sending your voice to an online service. If your phone can't recognise your language on the device, voice capture stays off and the app tells you why.
If voice capture is off
- Permissions: voice capture needs the microphone and speech recognition permissions. If you declined them, turn them on for DreamGate in your phone's settings.
- Language: your phone needs on-device speech recognition for your language. [TO CONFIRM: add the iPhone and Android steps for installing an on-device speech language, checked on current devices]
- Typing always works. Nothing in DreamGate needs your voice.
Speaking about other people
The app listens only while you hold to speak. Recording other people may need their consent where you live, so keep captures to your own thoughts.
