1Who we are#

1.1 DreamGate is provided by Adnap LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company doing business as ADNAP Industries ("we", "us"). You can reach us at legal@dreamgate.one.

1.2 This policy covers the DreamGate mobile app (the "App"). The website has its own Website Privacy Notice.

2How DreamGate is built#

2.1 DreamGate is designed so that your information stays with you. Everything the App does, including saving your journal, sorting your morning thoughts, turning speech into text and working out sunrise and sunset, happens on your phone.

2.2 The App has no account and no sign-in. We run no server for it. It contains no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting software. On Android, release versions of the App don't even request permission to use the internet.

2.3 As a result, we don't collect, receive, store, sell or share the information you put into the App. The rest of this policy explains what the App keeps on your phone, the few things we can receive from other routes (section 6), and your choices.

3What the App keeps on your phone#

The App keeps the following in an encrypted database on your phone. It's used only by the App, on your phone, to provide its features.

Table 1 · Information stored by the App on your phone
InformationWhy the App keeps itIn encrypted backupsErased by "Delete all data"
Journal entries: your dream notes and mind dumps (as text), recurring themes the App spots, an optional 1–5 morning clarity rating, and when you saved themYour journal and its historyYesYes
Tasks: text, type (action, idea or worry), urgency, done or not, and which entry they came fromYour focus listYesYes
Sleep records: when you tapped "Going to sleep" and "I'm up", or the hours you enteredThe rest check, which keeps night cues off when you're short on sleepYesYes
Night cue records: when a night cue startedSpacing night cues at least six hours apartYesYes
Your safety answers and when you gave themKeeping night cues and the night glow off when they may not be right for youYesYes
Settings: theme, red mode, sleep target, night glow on or off, and whether you've seen the introductionYour preferencesYesYes
Companion notes (only if you turn the companion on and tap Save): a short summary in your own words, a reflective question or a count of recurring themes, linked to the entry, with the timeKeeping a companion result you chose to saveYesYes (also deleted with their entry)
Approximate location, rounded to about 10 km (only if you choose it, see section 5.3)Working out sunrise and sunset for the sun-based themeNo, it stays on this phoneYes
Sleep history (only if you turn it on, see section 5.5): the App reads your sleep times from the last 14 nights from Apple Health or Health Connect when it needs them. It doesn't store them. Only the hours slept you choose to save with a morning entry are kept, as before, plus the on/off settingPre-filling hours slept, suggesting a Wake Back to Bed time, and making the rest check more cautiousNo; the setting stays on this phoneYes; the setting is turned off

Some of this, such as sleep times, dream content and how clear your mornings feel, may count as health-related information under some laws. Section 7 covers that.

4Voice capture#

4.1 Voice capture is optional. When you press and hold to speak, the App uses your phone's built-in speech recognition to turn your words into text, which you can review before saving.

4.2 The App always asks for on-device recognition, where your phone does the work itself. If your phone can't recognise speech on the device (for example, if the language pack isn't installed), voice capture stays off and you can type instead. The App never falls back to sending your voice to an online service.

4.3 The App doesn't keep any audio recording. Only the text you choose to save is stored, as part of your journal.

4.4 Speech recognition is a feature of your phone's operating system, provided by Apple or Google under their own terms.

5Permissions#

The App asks for a permission only when you first use the feature that needs it. You can change permissions at any time in your phone's settings.

5.1 Microphone and speech recognition: for voice capture (section 4). Without them, you can still type.

5.2 Audio playback in the background (Android): so night sound can keep playing, and stop on its own, while your screen is off.

5.3 Approximate location: only if you choose the sun-based theme or tap "Use my location". The App asks once, rounds the location to about 10 km before saving it, and uses it only to calculate sunrise and sunset on your phone. On iPhone it asks for reduced accuracy; on Android it asks only for approximate location, and precise location is blocked. If you say no, the App uses 07:00 to 19:00 instead. The rounded location is never included in backups.

5.4 Vibration (Android): for gentle haptic feedback.

5.5 Sleep data from Apple Health or Health Connect (read only): only if you turn on Sleep history in Settings. It's off by default. The App asks to read your sleep only, never anything else, and never writes to Health. It reads your past nights' sleep times on your phone, when needed, and doesn't keep a copy. It never reads in the background. Sleep history can only make the rest check more careful: it can pause night practice, but it can never turn practice or night cues on. You can turn it off in Settings, and revoke access in the Health app or Health Connect at any time.

The App doesn't ask for access to your contacts, photos, camera, precise location or tracking, and its only access to health data is reading sleep times, as above.

6What we can receive#

We don't receive anything from the App itself. We can receive information about you only in these ways:

6.1 From the app stores. Apple and Google give app developers aggregated statistics, such as numbers of downloads and the countries they come from. If you've chosen in your phone's settings to share diagnostics or crash data with app developers, they may also pass us crash reports and usage diagnostics about the App, which don't include your Entries. We use these only to fix problems and understand overall demand.

6.2 During beta testing. If you join a test through Apple's TestFlight, Apple shares with us the name and email address you were invited with, the device and system version, crash reports and any feedback you choose to send. We use them only to run the test and fix problems.

6.3 When you contact us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to reply and to keep a record of our correspondence, and we delete it within 24 months of our last exchange, or sooner if you ask.

6.4 Backups you send yourself. If you save a backup to a cloud drive, or email it to yourself, that service holds the encrypted file under its own terms. We don't receive it, and without your passphrase it can't be read by that service or by us.

7Health-related information#

7.1 Some laws treat information about sleep, dreams, mood or wellbeing as health data, or as a special category of personal data. Examples include the EU and UK GDPR, Washington's My Health My Data Act and similar US state laws.

7.2 DreamGate is designed so that we never collect, receive, process on our systems, share or sell this information. It stays in the encrypted database on your phone, under your control. If you turn on Sleep history, the sleep times the App reads from Apple Health or Health Connect are used on your phone and not stored (section 5.5). Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy covers this for Washington's My Health My Data Act and similar US state laws.

7.3 We don't use your information for advertising, profiling or automated decisions about you.

8Security#

8.1 The App encrypts its database on your phone. The key is created on your phone and kept in your phone's secure storage (the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore).

8.2 Backups are encrypted with a passphrase you choose, which we never see or store.

8.3 Security and Data describes the encryption, permissions and network settings in technical detail.

8.4 No security is perfect. Your phone's own security matters most: use a passcode, keep the system up to date, and be careful who you share an unlocked phone with.

9Backups, device backups and moving phones#

9.1 Encrypted backups. The App's export feature creates a backup file encrypted with your passphrase. It never creates an unencrypted backup. You choose where the file goes. The App can still restore older backups made before encryption was required.

9.2 Phone backups. On Android, the App opts out of Android's automatic backup and device-to-device transfer, so its data isn't copied to Google Drive or to a new phone. On iPhone, an iCloud or computer backup may include the App's database file. It stays encrypted, and its key is stored with "this device only" protection, which keeps it out of backups, so the file can't be unlocked on a different phone.

9.3 Moving to a new phone. Use an encrypted backup: export it on your old phone and restore it on the new one.

10How long information is kept#

10.1 Your Entries stay on your phone until you delete them, use "Delete all data", or delete the App.

10.2 "Delete all data" erases every entry, task, record, setting and the saved location from the App on that phone. It also removes any backup file the App left in its own temporary storage, and replaces the database's encryption key, so erased data can't be recovered from the phone. It can't be undone, and it doesn't affect backup files you've already saved elsewhere.

10.3 Information we receive by email or from the app stores is kept only as long as section 6 describes.

11Your rights and choices#

11.1 Because your Entries stay on your phone, you can see, correct, export and delete them yourself, at any time, in the App: edit or delete individual entries, export an encrypted backup, or use "Delete all data".

11.2 Depending on where you live, you may also have legal rights over personal information we hold about you, such as the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of it, to object to or restrict how it's used, or to withdraw consent. The only personal information we may hold is described in section 6. To use these rights, email legal@dreamgate.one. We may ask you to confirm the email address you're writing from. We won't treat you differently for using your rights.

11.3 We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.

11.4 If you're in the EU, the UK or another place with a data protection authority, you can complain to that authority. We'd appreciate the chance to help first.

12Children#

The App is for adults aged 18 and over (Terms 3.1). It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Because the App sends us nothing, we don't receive anyone's Entries. If someone under 18 emails us, we'll delete their message and email address once we've replied, or sooner if a parent or guardian asks.

13International users#

We are based in the United States, and the App is currently offered only in the United States. The App stores your information on your phone, wherever you are. Information we receive under section 6 may be processed in the United States by us and by the services we use for email.

14Changes to this policy#

If we change this policy, we'll update the version and date at the top and add the change to section 16. If a change affects how your information is handled, we'll tell you in the App before it takes effect. We'll never start collecting your Entries without asking you first.
